Doha Petroleum Construction Awarded QAR 244.96 Million Contract for QatarEnergy 2026 Refinery Turnaround Project

QatarEnergy has moved ahead with preparations for its 2026 refinery turnaround at Mesaieed, awarding a QAR 244.9 million contract to Doha Petroleum Construction Company Ltd (DOPET) W.L.L. The agreement comes into force on November 16, 2025, with work expected to continue through to April 15, 2028.

For QatarEnergy, this is a routine but critical step in keeping one of the country’s most important downstream assets running safely and efficiently.

A Phased Approach to a Complex Turnaround

Given the scale of the Mesaieed refinery, the turnaround has been broken into carefully planned work packages spread across 2026. This approach allows maintenance teams to focus on specific units while limiting disruption to overall operations.

Package 1 will focus on the chemical plant in Q2 2026, followed later in the year by work on RFCC Units 41- 46, currently planned for Q4 2026.

Package 2 covers a wider range of assets, starting with the condensate plant in Q3 2026, then moving into the crude refinery, utilities, and GRTA systems in the final quarter of the year.

This staged execution reflects the level of coordination required for large-scale refinery shutdowns.

What the Work Involves

The scope of work is broad and typical of a full refinery turnaround. DOPET will handle everything from early prefabrication through to final boxing-up and handover.

Key activities include scaffolding, insulation removal and replacement, hydrocarbon decontamination, equipment opening and cleaning, inspection and testing, non-destructive examination, blasting and coating, refractory lining, and repair or replacement of critical components.

In short, this is the kind of detailed, labour-intensive work that keeps refineries reliable long after the turnaround is complete.
